Computed Tomography (CT)
CT Scan is an advanced, painless, and non-invasive medical modality that helps a Radiologist to accurately diagnose various medical conditions. In addition to providing cross sectional images of scanned parts of the body, it is possible to create three-dimensional images using through advantage window workstation. The Bright speed Multi Detector CT scanner in our hospital acquires multiple slices in less than half a second, reducing radiation dose, while multiplying the level of detail in the images. The images can then be examined on a computer workstation or printed. CT scans are often the preferred method of diagnosing many medical conditions. Interventional procedures such as, biopsies and drainage procedures, can also be performed under CT guidance. The spacious and picturesque view of the scanning room is an added attraction.
CT Angiography & Ca Scoring
CT Angiogram provides detailed information of a patient’s vascular system like coronary arteries, cerebral and abdominal vessels. This new technology will provide information related to the status of a patient’s blood vessels to the referring physician which will help in treating the medical condition. Cardiac Calcium Score provides a general indication of the degree to which the coronary arteries have been narrowed. In general, a high score indicates a greater plaque load and an increased risk for a heart attack.
Digital Radiography & Fluoroscopy
X-ray imaging at Al Seef Hospital can be acquired directly into digital format, skipping the time consuming procedure of film processing. Since images are digital, radiographs are almost immediately available and can be viewed in different locations within the hospital at the same time. Thus, providing the Radiologist greater ease and flexibility in interpretation and obtaining an accurate analysis. Also, digital radiographs are acquired with less radiation exposure. Our department is equipped with the latest digital X-Ray system; Definium 8000 of GE Health Care, which is superior in its category. Flouroscopy is basically an X-ray movie, which enables our Radiologists to "see" inside the body in real time. This is particularly useful for guiding certain diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.
Ultrasonography and 4D Color Doppler
Ultrasonography is a non-invasive, patient-friendly investigational method through which our Radiologists can see inside the body in real time. Since no x-rays are involved, this is the investigational method of choice in pregnant women and younger individuals. Our latest 4 dimentional color Doppler Voluson E8 and Logic 7 Ultrasonography machines provide high definition 3D & 4D images of foetus in addition to help detecting any abnormalities. Ultrasound is well-suited for guiding invasive procedures and for evaluating conditions in real time. Portable Ultrasonography with 4D and vascular imaging capability enables the procedures to be conducted bed-side and in operating rooms.
Digital Mammography with Computer-Assisted Detection (CAD)
Mammography is an x-ray examination of the breasts. The advantage of mammography is to detect the occurrence of breast cancer when it is still too small to be felt by a woman or her physician. Early detection of small breast cancers by mammography greatly improves a woman's chances for successful treatment. Screening mammography is generally recommended every year for women over 40 years of age.
The advanced Digital Mammography in Al Seef Hospital helps in faster image acquisition, lower radiation exposure and greater flexibility and details during the Radiologist’s review. Computer-assisted detection (CAD) uses sophisticated software to evaluate certain aspects of the mammogram and to provide additional information based on the evaluation. In essence, CAD acts as a ‘second eye’ for the Radiologists which helps in prompting the regions that require thorough analysis.
Bone Mineral Density Scans (BMD)
Bone densitometry is a simple test to measure the calcium content of your bones and determines the risk of fracture. Our Lunar Prodigy BMD machine is one of our state-of-the-art equipment. It determines the density of a patient’s bone mineral by evaluating the degree to which it absorbs X-ray energy. It is the standard test for evaluating the presence and risk of osteoporosis, which is the loss of bone mass.
Fluoroscopy and Special procedures
Fluoroscopy is basically an X-Ray movie, which enables a clinician to view internal structures of the body and its movements. Fluoroscopy is essential in performing many investigations such as, upper and lower gastro-intestinal Barium examinations, Arthrography (imaging of joints), Hysterosalpingography (HSG), IVU, and Micturating Cysto-Urethrography (MCU). Our department also performs Fluoro-guided biopsies and interventional procedures like abscess drainage.
Interventional Radiology and Angiography
Interventional radiology is a branch of radiology in which minimally invasive procedures are performed using image-guidance. Some of these procedures are done for purely diagnostic purposes while others are done for treatment purposes. The images provide road maps that allow the Interventional Radiologist to guide the instruments through the body to the areas of interest in order to treat the specific condition. The procedures are minimally invasive, while conducted under local anaesthesia, with less discomfort and recovery times. The Interventional Radiologists at Al Seef Hospital perform a wide variety of procedures, such as Vascular interventions like Angiography, Embolization procedures, Renal interventions, Nephrostomogram, and Hepato-biliary interventions such as PTC and Precutaneous transhepatic Biliary Stenting, Transjugular liver biopsy etc.
